School Goal 16-17 School Year

School Goal for 2016-2017 School Year

In talking with the Supervisors, Mr. Clancy and the ScIP Team (School Improvement Panel) we have agreed that the school goal for the 16-17 school year should continue to focus on the learning environment and how the technology is incorporated with good pedagogy.

PDP School Goal
To focus on the school learning environment related to the 1-1 program and the future implementation of the rotating/block schedule, we will incorporate the SAMR Model to impact teaching and learning for at least one lesson per month.

Learn more about the SAMR Model from the two videos below.  A lot of you are already incorporating the SAMR Model into your everyday teaching without even knowing it.  You will hear more about the SAMR Model in future posts and throughout next year.

WHS Staff News - Week of 3/21/16

Bring on SPRING!!!!!!

Lets talk about AESOP... for the most part the transition has been smooth, but like anything new, there are a few things that everyone should be aware of (probably a couple months late on this).  The biggest thing everyone needs to understand is not every absence you request goes out immediately to the substitutes. Some don't need any approvals and certain absences require approvals from Dr. Casarico and myself.   If you are selecting an absence category that requires approvals, please understand that these approvals could take up to 48 hours before a substitute is contacted.

Below is a breakdown of how it works:

Sick - no approvals needed, goes out immediately to the subs
Illness in Family - no approvals needed, goes out immediately to the subs
Personal Day Emergency -  no approvals needed, goes out immediately to the subs
Personal Day - Needs Level 1 (Carroll) and Level 2 (Casarico) approval BEFORE going out to subs
Professional Development** -  Needs Level 1(Carroll) & Level 2(Casarico) approval BEFORE going out to subs
**All professional development days should be submitted in AESOP when you get the pink form returned with the Superintendent's signature.
Bereavement Immediate Family - no approvals needed, goes out immediately to the subs
Bereavement Other - no approvals needed, goes out immediately to the subs

Master Schedule Update (Rotating Block Schedule)

Master Schedule Update

At this point in the school year and due to circumstances that are out of my control, we are going to have to delay the implementation of the rotating block schedule for the 16-17 school year.  We will be keeping our current schedule as is.

I can share with you that I’m disappointed and frustrated with having to wait on this; however, that’s life and we can't have everything we want, when we want it.  I strongly believe that the majority of the WHS staff want to see this change happen and as a group, feel this change will be a great thing for our school.  From the beginning we worked on this together; visiting schools, talking about the pro’s and con’s, collecting feedback and including everyone in the process.

For those of you who strongly believe that the rotating/block schedule is something that will be a positive change at WHS, I encourage you to use your voice.  Please share with me, Dr. Casarico and the leaders of the WEA that you want to see this change happen.

WHS Staff News - Week of 3/7/16

Another exciting Friday at WHS (Not the excitement anyone wants). For the most part, everything was handled very well and I thank you for all your help during the lockdown and lunch. WHS came together again for the benefit of all. The local and state police and even the FBI are all heavily involved with these incidents and continue to work to find whomever is behind this.

I heard from a few of you that there were some students nervous and anxious during the lockdown. I would like to collect the names of students who are having a difficult time during these events so we can provide them with support and resources. If anyone comes to mind, please send me an email.

Start thinking about your SGO and PDP (14-15 SY) because the due dates will be here before you know it. Your Supervisor will be sharing the timeline and directions on how we will handle this using the Genesis staff portal.
